As with many regional cookbooks, you’ll want to be a bit skilled at sourcing your spices before attempting most of the recipes in the book, though they include a handy reference in the back of the essentials (some of which are even available at, for example, Trader Joe’s – so it’s not that wild). The recipes cross all courses and categories, like breakfast, meze, flatbread, savory pies, confections, specialty pastries, cakes, dessert and beverages. You’ll find familiar recipes here like hummus and shakshuka, and pistachio birds’ nests we loved. There are plenty of offerings for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. We’d especially recommend this one for those who enjoy Middle Eastern desserts and baking.
