What’s Your Superpower?

This is a question we all should ask ourselves – the answer won’t be something like the ability to leap tall buildings with a single bound or some kind of next-level sensory perception, not really, but rather something that for us is a differentiator. This was the lesson in Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules” by A.J. Mendez Brooks; she took all of the labels that were dropped on her in her youth, plus struggles with mental illness, and embraced them. It gave her a unique character in the WWE where she wrestled professionally and a degree of self-acceptance of which most readers will be envious.

If you’re expecting a wrestling memoir, the book is definitely not that. It’s a very personal one, of a dysfunctional childhood and complex journey. It’s well-written with many anecdotes and tangents that keep it very casual. Recommended especially for teens and probably relatable for anyone who’s overcome adversity in their lives.
